Yet another busy day

I haven’t had time to collate a post about yesterday’s madness, so I’m not going to do one now, but here are some photos of some of the casualties.

It VERY nearly got to the point where we were going to say that we just could not take any more hogs because of the intensive care so many of them coming in required, and those already with us.

As an example, the little hoglet with flystrike took over two hours to clean up, as can be seen in the photo it was covered in fly eggs, and live maggots were eating away at it’s flesh (you can see the blood around it’s ear for example). This poor little hoglet died as it was too far gone, it had been without it’s mother for 4 days, so was starving and dehydrated beyond saving.

We had over a dozen serious cases admitted yesterday, one died and four were PTS at the out of hours vets due to the seriousness of their injuries.

What a day.
