This is Michela, she came to us on Friday with a large skin flap on her abdomen full of maggots. She had overturned a pot of oil and walked through it causing caustic burns to her belly and feet.
We had to bath her to remove the oil and the maggots. It was quite apparent that she needed getting seen by the vet as soon as possible as her skin all appeared to be almost melted.
The vet had to remove all the burnt necrotic from under her neck all the way down to her vulva, and then stitch her back up.
She did not do very well under the anaesthetic and got cold very quickly. She also has a respiratory infection.
She is receiving pain relief and is on antibiotics, plus being kept warm in an ICU. She ate for the first time overnight but is still very poorly. She has a long recovery ahead.
