These two female hoglets, weighing 90g and 106g, came in late yesterday afternoon. Sadly a dog dug out a nesting mum and her hoglets. Mum took off and two hoglets were killed.
The two remaining hoglets were brought in to us where they were checked over. One had two small puncture wounds and both were dehydrated. The smaller one was given subcutaneous fluids to help hydrate her and both were given a special oral rehydration fluid.
Both fed well overnight, taking 2ml of formula per feed (every two hours) and are snuggled up together in one of our incubators.
Both are quite stressed, and loudly object to being handled at the moment, and doing their best Mexican jumping bean impression, but they should settle down.
Hopefully they will do well and be able to be released in 6 weeks or so when they have grown enough to fend for themselves.
