Trapped in a hole

Another very poorly hog came in to us from Upton yesterday. An adult male hog weighing 445g, found in a hole in a garden with no idea how long it had been there.

Hog was freezing cold, very dehydrated, emaciated and covered in flystrike and ticks.

We placed him on a heated pad while we gave him warm subcutaneous fluids and treated the flystrike. He was then placed into one of our ICU’s to warm up.

He has eaten a small amount of cat meat overnight, but is still very weak and listless this morning. I think it’s still touch and go with this chap, and he remains in an ICU for at least the next 3 – 4 days under close observation.
