Flystrike (Myiasis)

This 358g juvenile female hog was brought in to us last night, freezing cold, soaking wet and covered in flystrike (Myiasis).

She was given warm subcutaneous fluids and placed on a heat mat while the flystrike was cleaned off and treated.

You can see how wet she was by the colour of her feet, which have gone very pale and puffy from immersion.

She is in a very poor condition, and still fairly unresponsive this morning.

She will remain in one of our ICU’s to keep her body temperature up, and hopefully she will eat soon. She will receive fluid therapy for the next few days to help her system recover.
