Fighting over a female

This is Benny, an adult hog weighing 788g that has just come in to us from Upton, after being found laying out in the sun near a hog house.

He has an infected bite wound on his face, which we suspect is the result of a fight with another hog, possibly over a female.

He was given subcutaneous fluids for dehydration and the wound has been thoroughly cleaned and treated. He has had an antibiotic injection and the wound has been packed with an antibacterial barrier ointment. He is now in a cage with food and water available.

He will stay with us until the wound has healed, and any possible internal parasites have been checked for, and treated if necessary.
