We have had a really busy weekend and Bank holiday, with several hogs with fly strike on their wounds that needed cleaning.
Amongst several hogs that came on was this female, who came in to us this evening after having been found out in daylight when the homeowner went out to see what his dog was barking at, and found her not moving.
Another new entry this lunchtime, from our very good friends at Upton Vets.A young adult male hog, we have called Franklin, was taken in by a member of public after they found him on their lawn bleeding. The vets treated him for a bleeding foot, dehydration and wormed him.
This is Willow, an adult female, not pregnant, not lactating, collected from Bovington this morning after being found out in daylight, very cold and lethargic. She has a skin condition and is losing her spines, but is a very good weight for post-hibernation, weighing in at 1009g (I know, you should never tell anyone a ladies weight ).
Below are some pictures of puncture wounds from canine teeth on one of the hedgehogs that came in earlier, with fly strike (fly eggs/maggots) around them.
Two new entries today, one just after midnight last night and one this morning at 8.30.Last night’s entry is a male, found unresponsive on the pavement. He was dehydrated so was given subcutaneous fluids and offered food and water. He had eaten all his food when we checked him earlier this morning and is looking fine, so will be released after a couple of days observation.
A very kind lady brought this young female hedgehog to us from Bransgore, where it was found out in a car park, walking in circles during the day. She has a swollen right eye, and seems to have some tenderness around its head, but no sign of a wound.
This is Kenny, he came to us this evening as he was walking around outside a fish & chip shop, and actually walked up to somebody who was at a cash machine! He is very dehydrated, has lots of broken spines and is covered in ticks, most of which are so small I can’t get them yet. He has big clusters all over like bunches of grapes.
Tracy picked up this spikey bundle of cuteness from Boscombe earlier today, a lady heard what she thought was a bird in distress and went
We collected this male adult late yesterday afternoon after we received a phone call from a vet in Shaftesbury. He was found on a rugby
