Peanut danger!

I mentioned this happening on a previous post, here is a collage of photos from another rescue that has just dealt with a hog with a peanut stuck in the roof of it’s mouth.

Please do not feed hedgehogs with peanuts, sun flower hearts or mealworms – they are all very bad for hedgehogs!

  1. Hi I’ve been putting peanut chips out for the badger but seen our hedgehog also likes them. Are they a problem in this form rather than whole?
    Keep up the good work
    Regards. Paul

    1. It would be better not to give peanuts to hedgehogs at all. The phosphorous/calcium ratio is too high and they have a very high fat content.

Sticking to a good quality cat kibble would be a better solution, but make sure there is plenty of water available to the hedgehogs as well.
